The Galactic Update #2
The Galactic Update #2
Captain Pierre : Hello Chmyke, can you tell us what you have spent your time for three weeks and the announcement of the resumption of the development of the game?
Chmyke : I will state the big part that I have developed in chronological order, it will be simpler :
- the menu
- the galactic map, its generation and how we evolve in it
- the map of the sectors, their generation and how they evolved
- the backup / loading system
- the events
- the ship's editor
- the mechanism of selection of the units, and the "order wheel"
- the camera control mechanism
- the units, their movement, the animation, their life point, etc ...
Otherwise I have integrated the unit animation system, their shadows, almost finished the last little bug I had with the displacement mechanism (more precisely how they were moving in a squad). I also integrated the life bar and tweaked the unit selection script.
Recently, I wanted to test another construction mechanic that I had to abort because I felt it would take me too much time... But I plan to come back to it, one day, to integrate this mechanic. The new mechanic of construction consists of drag and drop modules : it is much faster and intuitive! But of course, this is full of exception and special case level code that I do not have time to set, so I remove this feature at the moment.
Captain Pierre : What works now better than before, in older builds?
Chmyke : I want to say: all! All the scripts are better optimized, much cleaner than before. The most obvious is the backup system that works much better thanks to the new classes. It is much more malleable and I hardly have any case of corrupted backup when I change their structure. It saves me a lot of time!
The loading of the game is also 100x faster.
Captain Pierre : What will you do for the next few weeks?
Chmyke : I started the gun fight between units. It should be finished soon but I want it to be perfect, so it might take me several more days. After that, I would like to concentrate myself on the collisions, but I feel that the priority is to integrate the weapons modules for the spaceship to be able to start the inter-ship combat!
Captain Pierre : A short note about all the messages of encouragement we received?
Chmyke : I was really afraid to go read them ... but really! I found the courage to go see the reaction just a few days ago ... and I was very moved, I went round and circled for more than an hour in my office ... I was more motivated than ever!
The next update about the development of the game is scheduled for the end of the month.
